Halloween Banner Layout with Scaredy Cat

Who else still has Halloween pictures from years past in a box? Even if you're all caught up, you're going to want these great Scaredy Cat products for this year's projects.

Counting, sorting, and trading Halloween candy has become a tradition at our house, so of course it was something I wanted to document in photos. I used a sketch pattern from one of the how-to books from CTMH.

This awesome banner is so easy to make using the title stickers from the Scaredy Cat Complements pack and some Colonial White cardstock.  I just trimmed some rectangles into pennant shapes and punched holes with a mini hole punch. (I totally wanted to do this with the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge, but the H x W ratio was a little off for my needs. It was still easy, just took a little longer.)  I strung them on twine and adhered them to the pages, using tape runner for the pennant shapes and a little Liquid Glass for the little bows at each end. Regular tape on the back of the plain end keeps that in place.

The Complements stickers also make it easy to add a little scene to the wide  open area on the layout. I added a few purple Glitter Gems and black Sparkles for accents and that's all there was to it.

Be sure to check out my Kit of the Month specials for September, including Scaredy Cat and coordinating products. There are also pictures of lots of great artwork from CTMH designers on my Kit of the Month page, so be sure to check those out too!

Trouble's Brewing - Scaredy Cat Kit of the Month Layout

In case you haven't checked out the Kit of the Month page yet this month, we're all about Scaredy Cat this month!  Get a jump start on this year's Halloween projects, or (like me) catch up on scrapping some pictures from previous years.

One of our neighbors has a birthday near Halloween, so she has a costume party every year. This was a 70's theme to celebrate her 40th.

I used a sketch from Scrapbook Generation, but changed these up some based on the papers I had and what I wanted to focus on.  I had only small pieces of the large pattern left, so I used that for the end strips, and the smaller pattern for the large section even though the sketch called or them the other way around.  I also used Thistle cardstock for the remaining panel, rather than another pattern, because there is so much going on in the photos. Finally, I substituted Pear cardstock strips where the sketch called for a striped pattern, so I could pull in the green. (I wanted to focus on the picture of me and my hippie friend, lol.)

For my title, I used "Groovy" from the Groovy Times Cricut cartridge and the curlicue font from the new Artfully Sent Cricut collection. And of course, I inked the edges of everything.

I simply used cardstock stickers from the Scaredy Cat Complements to embellish the layout, and added strip journaling as suggested by the sketch.

To see all of the available items for this month's special offers, be sure to visit my Kit of the Month page. All of the links to go shopping are right there to make it easy for you. There are also plenty of pictures of artwork created by the awesome designers at CTMH to help inspire you.

Simply Spooky Scrumptious Shop - Creations by AR Blog Hop

Welcome to September's new release from Creations by AR! This month's release is the Simply Scrumptious Shop, a super cute treat or gift box with inserts for all kinds of possibilities.  Maybe some cookies for a bake shop, some K-cups for a coffee shop, or whatever else you can imagine.  You can win your own copy of the files, which come in DXF, SVG, and PDF forms, and this one looks pretty easy to cut by hand. I cut mine with the Silhouette Cameo, and I fit all the same color pieces on one sheet each.

I decided to take this template a different way - we have no school the day after Halloween this year, so we are having a party! I thought this might make some cute family favors to take home, so I tried it out as a Spooky Magic Shop.

I added black ink distressing, some glitter cardstock gooey drips, some "magical creatures", and made one of the shutters crooked. I thought it turned out super cute!

The green glitter cardstock is from Close To My Heart and punched with a Martha Stewart Drippy Goo punch. The orange cardstock is Bazzill and the purple and black cardstock is Close to My Heart.

The owl and frog are clear stamps from the Fright Night "Clearly Swanky Set" by The Cat's Pajamas, stamped with Archival black ink from CTMH and colored with Copic markers.

The box opens by taking the roof off and opening the front downward.  I currently have one treat holder in the box, because I haven't decided what we're going to put in them! Something yummy? Something spooky? Something fun? I don't know!

This insert has a circular opening, to hold something like a K-cup, votive candle, etc. There is also a solid insert that has one end open, perfect for sliding in a cookie or some other flattish treat. And you can stack up multiple inserts in the box.

Now, since I know you can't wait to get your hands on this, here's how you can win the files for yourself:

Halloween Decor with Graphic 45

Today I have a fun project for you - and while mine is for Halloween, Graphic 45's papers are all well-suited to a project like this.  One of my favorite things about their papers are all the fun images that are perfect for fussy cutting.  And since you get two sheets of each design, you can cut the entire image from one sheet, and just portions from the other sheet for some awesome layering!

I started with another fabulous find from a local Goodwill, some Happy Haunting papers from Graphic 45, a Scor-pal and some Stickles.

First, I cut a base image in a circle to fit the center of my Goodwill tray (I used the Center Point feature on my Cricut to get the portion of the image that I wanted), then I cut portions of a second image which I could pop up on some 3-D foam adhesive.  I cut 2 strips of the fence paper, being sure to have the "Halloween" sentiment at the upper edge.  I used the Scor-pal to score both strips every 1/2", adhered them together and created a rosette.  I mounted my circle image in the center and adhered the whole thing to the center of the tray.  I added my "pop-up" portions of my image using foam tape, and I glittered it all up using Stickles.  Lastly, I used some ribbon from my stash to make a bow and a hanger.

You can see in this view where the "pop-up" pieces are, and where I added the Stickles on the hat, broom, coat, and cat's bow.

Items available at Cutters Creek:

I hope you enjoyed today's project!  I'd love to hear your comments!

This One's For the Rest of Us...

If you're one of those people who's "all caught up" with your scrapbooking, you can probably just stop reading here (so the rest of us can all complain about you, lol).  For the rest of us, I wanted to share a layout and a little news/reminder.  As usual, I'm pulling out pictures from a couple of years ago...

I created a scene with rubons. (YES, on patterned paper!)
The sad thing is that I have probably two more layouts I need to do for the same year... I have a few detail shots I'll stick in while we're moving along, but I know you want me to cut to the chase.  So, here's the reminder (or news for those of you that didn't know).  If you're like me and work on layouts at any time of year, you can't rely on being able to get the papers you want when you are ready.

Add dimension with a felt shape on top of similar paper.
We're all starting to get excited about all of the new products coming out soon, but we need to make sure we get current items we need before they are no longer available.  The items used in this layout are some of those - the Mischief papers & rubons , as well as the Midnight felt shapes are only available through January 31.  They're not the only things - the new Close to My Heart catalogs are "live" beginning February 1, so a whole host of products are going away.

Here are the main items from Close To My Heart that are going away:
Wonderland

Believe

Mischief
Dreamin'
Also leaving are the Sophia, Fanfare, Mayberry, and Lucky collections, along with their coordinating specialty embellishments.  Many stamp sets will be discontinued as well - if there is something in particular you are wondering about, just ask me.  If you see something here you NEED to have, I'm happy to hook you up!  You can shop online 24/7 on my website, or if you prefer a more personal touch, just drop me an email with your phone number and the best time to call.  If you're shopping online, don't forget to check out that While Supplies Last category; there are lots of discounted items there starting at just $1!

Thanks for stopping by today.  I hope to see you back here again soon! I see my number of Followers and email recipients has creeped up a little bit more, so I will be having some giveaways coming soon - be sure to check back!

Looking Forward to Halloween with Our Craft Lounge stamps

For some reason, I have Halloween on the brain lately.  I do love Halloween, but even I have to admit this is getting a bit ridiculous!  I have to promise myself that this is the last Halloween project for a while - after all, school starts in less than two weeks so there are plenty of related projects there I should probably be doing...

At any rate, I just couldn't resist making a fun card with some Our Craft Lounge stamps.  The Spooky Tags set would be great for simple tags on  treat bags or homemade items (have to let the neighbors know where they came from or they'll just throw them out!).  But they also make some great scrapbook embellishments and cards - here's what I made this time:

I based my color palette on an eery sunset.  Using glossy white cardstock, I brayered on ink, moving from bottom to top of my panel.  Beginning with Sunset, followed by Spring Iris, ending with Outdoor Denim.  Next, I stamped the image, then the sentiment, over the brayered background using black Staz-on ink.

Digging through my stash of Halloween papers, I found the perfect pattern/color combination in this Heidi Grace paper.  (Not long ago, I saw they still carry some of this paper at Joann's.)  I added some machine stitching using black upholstery thread, then topped the card with some cardstock panels and popped up my image panel on some foam adhesive tape.  Finally, I colored some clear Sparkles with a black alcohol marker and added them in a swirl design.

I left the inside simple, with a cardstock liner and a stamped sentiment from the same stamp set.  All supplies other than the stamps, marker and pattern paper are from Close To My Heart.

Overall dimensions of this card are 8" x 3.5", perfect for gifting a couple of dollars to a special little someone too far away for Trick-or-Treat.  Or maybe a school store gift certificate for a favorite teacher to replenish a few supplies.

Thanks for stopping by!  I'd love to see/hear what you like to make for Halloween, or whatever your favorite holiday is!

Halloween Decor with Authentique, Close To My Heart, Cricut, and Tim Holtz

While visiting CHA this year, I saw a paper company whose papers I had not seen in person before and I went a little ga-ga.  Authentique Paper's 12x12 papers are heavy weight, printed on both sides of a nicely textured cardstock.  For this project, due to the size, I chose to use the smaller 6x6 papers with their reduced patterns.  These papers are a 65 lb. weight, making them great for layering.  They also carry sticker and cardstock elements, which I don't have on hand, so I just used the papers.

As soon as I saw these 6x6 papers from the Glowing collection, I knew what I wanted to do with them.  Of course, it has taken me until now to finish it, but I absolutely love it!  I ran out and bought a Tim Holtz Configurations box and a package of Box Feet as the base for my project.  The knob is also Tim Holtz, from part of a package I had on hand.

Here are the details of all those little boxes:
This was a really easy one!  I just trimmed the paper to size, traced the web with Black Diamond Stickles, and filled in the spider's body with Liquid Glass.  I adhered the dried piece to a cardstock platform to lift it away from the back of the box.

Here's another easy one.  I stamped the cat with Black Staz-On ink and added some Lime Green Stickles to its eyes.  I also placed this one on an even higher cardstcok platform, bringing it almost to the front of the box.

For this box, I used the new Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge (exclusive from Close To My Heart).  I cut a couple of branches from New England Ivy cardstock and distressed it with black distressing ink.  They are adhered and various points using Liquid Glass adhesive.  The flowers are also from this Cricut cartridge, using the scalloped flower cut on page 68 of the handbook.  I cut them at various sizes, from 1.25" to 2.75", distressed them with the distress ink and rolled them.  I added Black Diamond Stickles to the edges of some of the petals.

This one was done the same way.  For both boxes, I used Liquid Glass to adhere the flowers so they could be manipulated and moved into the desired position.

For this box, I stamped the witch hat directly on the patterned paper using Staz-On ink (I did this for the super dark color.), and I stamped the sentiment on the clear window sheet that goes in the "lid" of the Configurations box.

These two boxes go together.  The witch legs were stamped on white cardstock using Memento ink and colored using a Copic marker for the skin, and an Autumn Terracotta marker (CTMH) for the stockings.  I cut out the image and adhered it to the pattern paper using a Quickie Glue Pen.  I cut the plaque image using Art Philosophy, and trimmed the top of it straight with my paper trimmer.  After stamping the sentiment, I distressed the edges with Autumn Terracotta ink, and adhered it to the pattern paper with two layers of foam tape.

Another easy one, where I just traced the pattern on the paper with Black Diamond Stickles.

I cut both the tree and the "fence" from Art Philosophy.  I adhered the center of the tree only to the pattern paper using a Quickie Glue Pen, and bent up the remaining branches to give some dimension.  I trimmed the "fence" border cut to the proper length, scored folds for the side pieces, and adhered it to the sides of the box using a Quickie Glue Pen.

Here's a list of all the supplies I used:

If you've arrived here from Tutton's Treasures, or are just starting out, you're in the right place.  Our hop is a big circle, so you can just continue on around until you wind up back here!  Your next stop will be Creating with Wanda.

For my project, I've decided to combine the stamp set with our new exclusive Cricut cartridge, Art Philosophy.  There are some great 3-D items on this cartridge, and I've chosen to make a pillow box.  I give all of the details, including cut sizes I used, in my video below.  If you don't care to watch the video at this time, you can skip down to the pictures.

Side 1
Side 2
Notice I didn't label those as front & back - I think both sides look great, so neither one is really the "back" side!  In case you missed the measurements in the video, the pillow box was cut at 8", the tag at 1.75", and the solid shape for the witch at 2.25".

All items, including the Cricut cartridge, are available beginning August 1 on my Close To My Heart website. (The link for the Cricut cartridge is here.) If you don't have a consultant, I would be honored to have you as my customer.  I'm always happy to answer questions and help in any way needed, even if you have a product purchased elsewhere.  Thank you for stopping by!  I always enjoy comments, lol, and I'd love it if you'd become a follower or a subscriber.  Hope to see you again soon!  Don't forget to hop along to Creating with Wanda now.

Double Duty Holiday Decor

I love when things can serve more than one purpose, and my holiday decor is no exception.  I had just received my new Thanksgiving mini Cricut cartridge, but Happy Hauntings was still calling my name since I just haven't had a chance to use it as much as I'd like yet.  The solution was a fun little hanging sign from my stash.  (I tend to buy alterable items when they're on sale, and hoard them along with some recyclables to alter when the mood strikes.)

The plan was to decorate one side for Halloween, and one side for Thanksgiving.  I didn't want typical black & orange for Halloween, but some of the colors needed to be the same so I could add ribbon to the wire hanger for a more decorative look.  So, let's see how I did:

I'm going with a bit of an elegant vampire theme for Halloween this year, so I pulled this paper from my stash, traced the sign on it, and cut it out.  I decoupaged it to my sign and let it dry while I cut my Cricut Designs.  Using the Vampire font from Happy Hauntings, I cut "Beware" from American Crafts glitter paper in Rouge and the font shadow from black paper.  I cut the Bats using the Layer 1 feature for Frame 3 on page 40 of the handbook.  I added the red eyes using some Stickles in Christmas Red.  To adhere the shadow, I again decoupaged.  Helpful Hint:  I like to make my paper look like fabric by brushing on the first layer in one direction and letting it dry, then brushing on the next layer in the opposite direction.  The vertical and horizontal cross-hatching looks just like a fabric weave.  Once everything was dry, I added the pieces cut from glitter paper using Glossy Accents.

Now, for the Thanksgiving side:
Using the same process as the other side, I adhered this paper from my stash to the sign blank.  I cut this nice little Pilgrim couple on the Thanksgiving cartridge from black cardstock, using creamy white and deep orange for the layers.  After adhering them to the sign, I just cut off the excess from the "swirly" part that hung off the edge.  I cut the "Give Thanks" design from American Crafts glitter paper in Chestnut, and adhered it over the top of the Pilgrims.  Somewhere along the way I misplaced the dot for my "i" - since I didn't want to cut it again, I just pulled an adhesive rhinestone from my stash and stuck it on instead.

Finally, I tied ribbons and attached them to the hanging wire using Glue Dots Pop Up Dots.  I added a red button to the Halloween side and a deep orange button to the Thanksgiving side for a little color.

September Card Capers - Hooligans

My classes for September feature the brilliant new Hooligans line from Close To My Heart, available beginning September 1st.  Designed with fun & friendly monsters, yes this line is designed with Halloween in mind.  But with its fun bright colors, it's useful for so much more!  Take a look at this fabulous artwork from the designers at Close To My Heart:

Aren't those colors great for the teen or tween in your life?  Don't do Halloween?  The level 1 kit contains the more general paper designs, with not a "boo" in sight.  The level 2 paper pack and My Stickease feature more of the monsters and Halloween-y images & phrases.  There are also two stamp sets designed to coordinate with this line: one for Halloween, and one with a party theme.  And of course, there's always the Workshop on the Go option with its own exclusive stamp set (not available separately), Workshop Guide with patterns, and coordinating Mini-Medley of embellishments, all for $29.95.

My Card Capers class is the first Wednesday each month, this month September 1st.  Cost is $5, or free with any $25 purchase.  We make 3 various sized cards with a technique and/or special embellishment.  This month, we're coloring images with markers, embossing a stamped image, and using some fun embellishments.  We'll make a card appropriate for a birthday, another birthday gift-enclosure sized card, and a larger Halloween card.  (Upon request, the third card can also be non-Halloween.)  Here they are:

These papers and stamp sets are so much fun!  I can't wait to get my sample layout ready for our September Memory Makers class.  I know I have Halloween pictures from more than one year that I haven't yet scrapped...
